Joomla came into being after many years of intensive work with its predecessor Mambo. Joomla 1.0 was created on the base of Mambo 4.5.2.3. Since that moment the development of the two systems went separate ways.

The name Joomla was chosen after a contest, results of which were evaluated by a professional team of  branding and marketing specialists. The name is based on a Swahili word “jumla” which means “all together” or “as a whole”. This name was decided to be the right one, while all the members of the Mambo team worked together to protect the interests of the system developers and the users community.

Joomla Themes is a set of scripts, written with the PHP programming language which uses the MySQL database by default. Joomla Themes include features such as page caching to improve performance, website searching,  printable versions of pages, RSS feeds, news flashes, polls, blogs, and language internationalization.

Joomla themes are easy to install, even for non-programmers. Once the theme is installed and running, it is simple to add or edit content, manage the critical date or update images even for non-technical users. A Joomla themes are easy to manage by anybody, who has basic Word processing skills.

There are two different types of Joompla Themes: Site Template and Backend Template. Joomla gives you a possibility to use various templates for different pages. For example: having two sections on your website, such as news page and shopping page, you can design them manipulating Joompla Themes, as two completely different sites!
